One of the big disasters at Seattle Grace when two ambulances crash outside the front doors. Now, not only are the patients being transported in more peril, but now they've got the four medics to attend to as well. None ends up being an "easy" case, but I do not envy Miranda Bailey this week. Miranda's husband is starting to get pissed off that she's gone all the time, leaving him to care for the baby by himself. She puts him off and says they'll talk at lunch. Here's where Bailey's pride gets the best of her. She takes in a medic who refuses treatment from a woman, so she grudgingly brings in Chief, only to find out that it's really that he wants a white doctor. In examining the man, they find a white supremacy swastika covering his entire abdomen. You know Bailey ain't gonna be happy about this one. . . so she forces Cristina Yang to scrub in with her because she's not white. Let me just tell you, Crisitina is NOT happy about that one. Bailey keeps saying "I am rising above" in order to remind herself to do the right thing and help this man, but I can't help but think that her pride is getting in the way A LOT. I get how she could be so upset, after all, the patient is an extreme hater, but she completely puts her husband aside and leaves him waiting. . . AGAIN. Plus, she exploits Cristina for her race which is questionable in itself. Of course the surgery takes a lot longer than she anticipates and she sends George O'Malley out several times to ask her husband wait, but eventually he leaves. She justifies it by telling herself how much good she is doing, without being able to admit her faults in brushing him aside. Bailey better watch herself, this could be a bad path to take. more from this episode. . . |

Nothin' worse than trying to date two girls at once, only to them meet and find out that you're "cheating,"right? While I don't think Lexie Grey has really defined things with Alex and started out saying she didn't expect any commitment, I don't think she was expecting this. Alex Karev breaks the rules to let Ava sit in on a surgery he's helping perform. She just so happens to sit next to Lexie Grey, who he's been sleeping with also. She starts up a convo with Lexie and spills the beans about being there to see her "boyfriend," Alex. Alex is watching the observation deck and sees the two talking, obviously hoping it's not about him. Lexie leaves the situation quite upset. Obviously she wasn't ready to share Alex with another woman, even if they never technically said they were dating exclusively, she pretty much assumed as much. . . and you know what they say about people who assume! She gets away from that scene as fast as she can and goes to talk to a patient that hit on her earlier (played by Seth Green). The patient had a tumor removed from his neck leaving an artery very vulnerable. He had tried to ask her out, but she says she was seeing someone. She confides in her patient that maybe the guy she thought was her boyfriend is a jerk. As some friendly banter ensues and giggles arise, the artery bursts from his neck and Lexie is stuck with her hand in his artery with blood all over the place. Nice, huh? And this is how they leave us hanging til part 2 of the episode. Sucks doesn't it?

Dr Erica Hahn all of the sudden has two interns chomping at the bit to help her all of the time. Isobel Stevens, trying to prove she can do it, keeps trying to shut out Cristina Yang out of the cardio surgeries. Is Isobel cut out for the surgeries, though? Erica Hahn gets a little annoyed with her this episode because (as is in her nature) Izzie starts caring more about how a patients daughter copes than with the patient and the surgery. Who has time to be both?
After all, Cristina would never do that, right? So Erica ditches Izzie and lets Cristina scrub in on the surgery. I don't know quite who to side with all of the sudden. I love Cristina for her solid and constant abilities, her driven character and her ability to get even the most difficult jobs done. . . but her bedside manner leaves much to be desired. Izzie on the other hand has superb bedside manner, cares maybe too much and her abilities are driven by a genuine want and need to help, not just to promote her own abilities. Both can be strengths, but they both need to learn that. As I watch the show, I always love Cristina because she is so matter of fact. She says those no-nonsense things we all are dying to scream out ourselves. But when I reflect, Izzie really is a good person with a good heart. What a tough battle because they are both SOOOOO different. more from this episode. . . |
