8 "Forever Young"
Izzie Stevens and George O'Malley "Just Friends"

izzie and george in bed

After all they've tried and been through, which is a lot, George and Izzie just can't seem to "get it right." They both pull Meredith aside (separately) to complain about how bad it is and how hard they're trying, but it's just not working. They finally decide they will have to just talk to each other about the issue. They do and both decide that things were better when they were "just friends." As much as they want it to work, it doesn't look like it's going to. That leaves George silently confused and Izzie doing some more soul searching. The more things go wrong in their relationship, the more competitive Isobel Stevens is at the hospital. She keeps trying to prove herself and competing with Cristina Yang (who seems to actually know what she wants). Izzie wants what she has and is frustrating Cristina's attempts to get on Hahn's good side.

Derek Shepard Back on the Dating Circuit

Derek Shepard starts dating again, which makes me nervous. His first date with Sydney Heron was a joke. Sydney is only the most annoying resident in the hospital-"Miss Happy Sunshine." Seriously? That has to be a joke right? Every time we've ever seen her she just makes our skin crawl. She is so unbearable that everyone avoids her whenver possible and here Derek actually voluntarily spends time with her. There is no way our McDreamy is ending up with her, right? Let's all hope not. If Derek is going to have to date someone other than Meredith Grey, it better at least be someone decent.

And then Rose appears out of nowhere. Who is Rose, you ask? Good question. No one's ever noticed her before, but according to her she's worked on 36! of his surgeries before. Rose is a nurse at Seattle Grace who just happens to turn Derek's head this episode calling him on the carpet about doctors not being friends with nurses. It intrigues him enough he finds out her name and talks to her as she's leaving the hospital. Later, after their date goes expectedly all wrong Derek gets dumped by Sydney (yah, you heard right. . . how on earth did she dump him before he dumps her) because she's kinda crazy anyways and doesn't think he's "ready for a relationship." Weird! So Derek leaves with Meredith Grey, but not before he catches the eyes of Rose. Yikes! Meredith better bring it next week because she's gonna have a run for her money soon. Watch out for an upset soon!

Thatcher Grey in the ER

As if the girls didn't have enough tension between them Meredith and Lexie Grey have another problem to face when their father ends up in the ER (Thatcher). When he come in Alex Karev receives him and he asks for his daughter, Lexie, but when she's busy, he gets Meredith. Surprisingly, Meredith and her father actually have good conversation (for once). Thatcher actually tells Meredith how proud he is of her and all she's accomplished and she feels good about herself (for a moment). She turns a blind eye to his drunken state because he tells her that it's his late-wife's birthday and he's upset. She leaves him feeling like she actually matters to him. Then Lexie arrives and gets mad at Alex for letting Meredith in on their "secret" (about her father's state). He tells her he doesn't "do secrets." Lexie then talks to Meredith who tells her she actually enjoyed her father before Lexie crashes her dreams of finally mattering to him and tells her that he's a drunk. She goes even further and tells her that he says the same thing to her sometimes and the other times tells her she's worthless. This leaves Meredith gasping with nothing to say. Two things make me upset about this. First, I hate that Alex never has any allegiance to anyone. He never gets in the middle of things, never is consistent about caring. What's his deal? Second, the last thing in the world Meredith need is more reason not to trust her father (and all men in her life). It kills me that for each step forward she takes a step back. I just want her to get it together so she can get it together with Derek Shepard again.

Miranda Bailey's High School Crush

miranda bailey with patient

I really enjoyed this episode because I really like to get all the good background info of what people were like before they ended up here. It all starts when a bus of children end up in th hospital after a crash. Miranda Bailey's crush from high school was the driver. This is the first time I've ever seen Bailey get all giggly like a school girl It was crazy to see her giving this patient such attention when she's usually so no-nonsense about everything. It turns out that she was the band geek who was in love with the track player. She used to "tutor" him in high school (which translated to "she used to do all his homework for him"). She filled out his insurance forms and babies him the whole episode even when several co-workers called her on how silly she was. Hello Bailey, he's a bus driver and you're a surgeon. Grab a clue. He's a loser (even if he is very charming). Because of the focus on all the high school students, we see what several others were like in high school. Lexie Grey was valedictorian and prom queen (no shock). Izzie Stevens was the poor trailer trash girl who wore hand-me-downs and got pregnant in high school ( I was a little surprised, though I shouldn't have been considering we knew Izzie had a baby young as revealed last season). Derek Shepard, everyone's favorite hotty was actually a band geek in high school (what a waste of all those good looks, huh?). I guess we will always remember who we were in high school, huh? No matter who we are now.
