| Ava is Pregnant. . .and Babies are Everywhere |
|
Addison Shepard is back to shake things up for one surgery and babies keep popping up all over the place! She just seems to have that talent I guess. Ava/Rebecca Pope wanders her way back in to Seattle Grace and confronts Alex Karev immediately. "I'm pregnant!" she blurts out of nowhere (but she swears she wasn't going to blurt it). Alex gives her a really dirty, confused look and coldly says, "Are you keeping it or having an abortion?" before leaving her saying he's too busy to deal with her. He's helping Addison's patient whose baby has a heart forming outside its body. The parents are incredibly optimistic and it's annoying Alex. He starts being condescending telling the parents that they should expect the worst so Addison and Miranda Bailey pull him outside before he says anything more inappropriate to the family. Alex freaks out and goes off on how "unprepared" they are for this child to come into the world. You and I both know that it's not about this family. Alex is really confused as to how he is supposed to handle this rude awakening from Rebecca Pope. Meanwhile, Isobel Stevens is having her own problems with a pregnant patient. She's back in the clinic with her interns (who are hating to be there) and a couple comes in because they think they're pregnant. Pregnancy tests confirm that they are and instead of a pleasant reaction, the couple asks for an abortion. A confused Izzie looks at them seeking answers only to find out that the wife is HIV positive. She leaves them unsure of how she should proceed. Addison Shepard later finds her hiding out behind a bag of potato chips at the nurses station. Izzie asks her if she'll talk to this patient for her, but Addison refuses saying that she no longer works here. Addison asks Izzie why she's not a fighter anymore. Izzie tells her, "I've lost a lot of fights." Addison bestows her pearls of wisdom, "Time to get back up, go. . . 'be the change you want to see in the world'." "Did you just Ghandi to me?" But it seems to be what Izzie needed. She realizes she's been hiding out and needs to change. She goes in to the couple and tells them there is still a chance they can have a baby without HIV and that they should look at the options. The wife angrily throws her out - she doesn't want to bring a child into the world to go through what she has to go through. Izzie leaves, still unsettled by it all. Regathering her strength she brings her interns in with her and gets forceful (go Izzie). She tells them "I guess I wasn't clear enough the first time. . . You don't have A chance. . . you have a 98% chance. . . you have a better chance of having a child with Downs Syndrome than HIV . . .if you take your medication regularly." This, the couple understands. The interns are shocked. What happened to the wussy Izzie they've come to know? Hopefully this is the end Izzie's sulking and the beginning of the strong Izzie we knew was there. By the end of Alex's experience with the baby, he realizes that he really would like the chance to have a baby. You can see it in his eyes and he goes to Rebecca. In the midst of it all, Izzie is the one who helps Ava/Rebecca Pope in the clinic. She finds out she's pregnant, too . . . or is she? The episode ends when Izzie gets Rebecca's labs back and she's NOT pregnant. Then you see Alex sitting with Rebecca with his hand feeling her stomach as if his baby is inside. So what kind of crazy stuff is she trying to pull on Alex? A new reason for Alex to never trust anyone. |
