13 "Pieces Of My Heart"

Addison Shepard walks into Seattle Grace thinking nothing at all has changed since she left, but is she right? No way. She'll soon see how a lot has changed. . .A LOT! After seeing how close Erica Hahn and Callie Torres are, Addison has got to ask what's up as soon as she gets Callie alone. She nonchalantly asks her about the "vagina monologues" and Callie gets awfully ruffled! "You think we're a (chuckle) Couple! . . that's insane. . .I like penis . . I'm a huge, HUGE fan of penis. . .," but you can tell by her strained laughs and distraught looks that Callie is pretty nervous about this. It suddenly occurs to her that there may be a problem with this perfect "friendship" with Erica Hahn. She casually asks Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey if anyone has ever thought they were a couple. Meredith explains, "No because we screw boys like whores on tequila. . ." "then we either try to marry them or drown ourselves," Cristina finishes. Now Callie is starting to read all the signals and she's a little more nervous and doesn't know quite what to do around Erica anymore. Later, Addison is in surgery trying to catch up on gossip with Miranda Bailey (since it's come to her attention that her husband is no longer with the woman he left her for). So she says, "So who's the new mystery woman Derek's dating? Who's the lucky McRebound. . ." She receives a dirty look and first tries to correct herself thinking that maybe no one's using the "McTalk" anymore. Bailey so methodically answers her, "the woman standing immediately to your right, the one handing you the surgical instruments. . ." And there's Rose, standing right next to her the whole time, who replies "6 dates, heavy petting, lots of tongue-good guy!" Awkward silence! Meanwhile, Derek Shepard and Meredith Grey are working on their medical trial together on the tumor patient. Derek keeps telling Meredith not to get her hopes up and not to get emotionally involved because it may not work out. Meredith goes into her therapist with five minutes before surgery to tell her, "I'm not the one who's emotionally involved, he's the one emotionally involved. . .he told me not to get my hopes up. Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a hopeful person to begin with. . . does he honestly think I walked into this not knowing how hard it will be. No wonder we didn't work out." Then she excuses herself to go to her surgery to which the therapist retorts, ". . the one with no hope?" She rolls her eyes and leaves. The surgery ends up not being successful, but you and I both know she wasn't really talking about the surgery! The two part from surgery with a hand shake and a "it was a pleasure working with you today."
In true Grey's Anatomy style, it's time to go home and Derek is in the elevator. The doors open and in comes Meredith Grey, followed shortly by Addison. Then the doors open and Rose step in. As if this wasn't enough, the doors open AGAIN and Mark Sloan comes in to top it all off. He whispers to Derek "I bet you wish you'd taken the stairs." It was truly fun to watch.
So it all tries to work out at Joe's after work. Addison, Erica and Callie are sitting together when Mark Sloan walks up (who's ". . .horny. The nurses are shutting me down.") and asks if any of them would like to dance. Callie quickly stands up and takes the offer where she starts really bumping and grinding on the dance floor. Addison says to Erica that she's a pretty girl. Erica says, "She's Beautiful!" longingly looking at the two on the dance floor. Callie whispers to Mark "so do you want to get out of here." As if she has to ask him twice, they're off and running out the door together. Before she leaves, though, Addison can't help but to have a word with a lonely Meredith Grey across the room. " I want to kick your a** so badly right now it is killing me. . .I'm talking about Derek . . . Derek Christopher Shepard. Are you letting him get away? Because I swear to G if you let him ride off into the sunset with that doe-eyed thing. . ." then she leaves without finishing. I'm glad she said what we were all thinking! more from this episode. . . |

Isobel Stevens finds out early in the day that the interns were all drinking the night before. To be more specific, they went to a party at George O'Malley and Lexie Grey's new apartment - a party that Izzie wasn't invited to. She confronts George about it only to find out that they're also having a dart contest at Joe's after work. George invites her out of obligation and she shortly feels better. She tries to catch on to they're new inside joke of saying "You coded," but it goes terribly flat. So here are George and Izzie trying to be friends again, but it's not working. The interns, George's new friends start backing out of the night's plans. George is trying to play both sides of the game and Izzie just can't find her place in the game. Finally the two are left to confront each other. Izzie says "I think I've been hiding in the clinic. . I lost the contest, I couldn't hack cardio, I performed CPR on a deer. . . I think I've been hiding." But she's not listening to George. He finally gets her to listen "You're not an intern anymore. . .and no one wants to hang out with their boss." The ah-ha moment comes as Izzie realizes "I'm the boss." It's not rocket science, but it's what she needed to hear to move on at that moment. She realizes that George is in a different place and that she needs to let him be there. She realizes, too, that she needs to be the stronger person she knows she can be. George admits, "You know, whenever anyone says something really funny and they laugh, and I always look around to see if you think it's funny, too. Even when you're not there I still look around." I really miss seeing these two as friends but with everything that has changed it will be hard to get there again. George is an intern still and Izzie needs to be a resident now. more from this episode. . . |

Addison Shepard is back to shake things up for one surgery and babies keep popping up all over the place! She just seems to have that talent I guess. Ava/Rebecca Pope wanders her way back in to Seattle Grace and confronts Alex Karev immediately. "I'm pregnant!" she blurts out of nowhere (but she swears she wasn't going to blurt it). Alex gives her a really dirty, confused look and coldly says, "Are you keeping it or having an abortion?" before leaving her saying he's too busy to deal with her. He's helping Addison's patient whose baby has a heart forming outside its body. The parents are incredibly optimistic and it's annoying Alex. He starts being condescending telling the parents that they should expect the worst so Addison and Miranda Bailey pull him outside before he says anything more inappropriate to the family. Alex freaks out and goes off on how "unprepared" they are for this child to come into the world. You and I both know that it's not about this family. Alex is really confused as to how he is supposed to handle this rude awakening from Rebecca Pope. Meanwhile, Isobel Stevens is having her own problems with a pregnant patient. She's back in the clinic with her interns (who are hating to be there) and a couple comes in because they think they're pregnant. Pregnancy tests confirm that they are and instead of a pleasant reaction, the couple asks for an abortion. A confused Izzie looks at them seeking answers only to find out that the wife is HIV positive. She leaves them unsure of how she should proceed. Addison Shepard later finds her hiding out behind a bag of potato chips at the nurses station. Izzie asks her if she'll talk to this patient for her, but Addison refuses saying that she no longer works here. Addison asks Izzie why she's not a fighter anymore. Izzie tells her, "I've lost a lot of fights." Addison bestows her pearls of wisdom, "Time to get back up, go. . . 'be the change you want to see in the world'." "Did you just Ghandi to me?" But it seems to be what Izzie needed. She realizes she's been hiding out and needs to change. She goes in to the couple and tells them there is still a chance they can have a baby without HIV and that they should look at the options. The wife angrily throws her out - she doesn't want to bring a child into the world to go through what she has to go through. Izzie leaves, still unsettled by it all. Regathering her strength she brings her interns in with her and gets forceful (go Izzie). She tells them "I guess I wasn't clear enough the first time. . . You don't have A chance. . . you have a 98% chance. . . you have a better chance of having a child with Downs Syndrome than HIV . . .if you take your medication regularly." This, the couple understands. The interns are shocked. What happened to the wussy Izzie they've come to know? Hopefully this is the end Izzie's sulking and the beginning of the strong Izzie we knew was there. By the end of Alex's experience with the baby, he realizes that he really would like the chance to have a baby. You can see it in his eyes and he goes to Rebecca. In the midst of it all, Izzie is the one who helps Ava/Rebecca Pope in the clinic. She finds out she's pregnant, too . . . or is she? The episode ends when Izzie gets Rebecca's labs back and she's NOT pregnant. Then you see Alex sitting with Rebecca with his hand feeling her stomach as if his baby is inside. So what kind of crazy stuff is she trying to pull on Alex? A new reason for Alex to never trust anyone. more from this episode. . . |

An anxious Cristina Yang starts out the day by meeting Erica Hahn as she's walking in to the hospital. She quickly gives her the films and info she needs for the days' patient, explains that she'd like to be on the surgery because it was her patient in the clinic, and just as quickly she is totally brushed off by Dr. Hahn left with an awkward look by Callie Torres. Now I'm getting sick of Cristina sucking up and all, but really Erica is very persistent with her shut downs. She is just not willing to give an inch on this. Cristina asks Callie for advice on how to get through to Erica Hahn. Callie tells her that "Erica is a good listener" and that she should try just talking to her. This leaves Cristina feeling quite hopeless because she doesn't "speak girl." She tries talking to her friends in the cafeteria, asking them to open up about their day and share their feelings, but her hopeless attempts don't really help. Cristina is finally able to get Callie to put in a good word for her eventually, but even if it gets her a ticket into the surgery, it doesn't earn her any points with Hahn. They are operating on a freshly born infant whose heart formed outside the body. The heart starts arresting and Cristina steps up to massage the heart. She gets the heart strong again and Dr. Hahn turns to thank Alex Karev for his quick thinking to administer the meds. Cristina looks at Hahn and is abruptly asked to move back from the table. Dr. Mark Sloan appears to play "God" as he keeps reminding us. He grew a skin flap for the patient and is very proud of him. Besides, he tells Addison before the surgery "I'm horny! The nurses are turnin' me down." I guess feeling like he's "playing God" is as good as he's going to get for now. Later at Joe's Cristina finally approaches Dr. Hahn who's sitting with Addison drinking and asks, "Is it because I'm Asian? Is that your problem? . . . Why won't you teach me?" Dr. Hahn tells her, "You're not without skill, you're not without talent, stop seeking my approval. . ." Cristina leaves and Addison questions, " Geez, you're a little hard on her, don't you think?" Erica shruggingly tells her, "I think she reminds me a of me." This leaves me with the question: Is that really how you would treat yourself? I guess that's not the last we'll see of these two at war. Erica doesn't seem like she's going to give in and Cristina's desperate for more experience. So what are we going to do here? more from this episode. . . |
