1 " A Change is Gonna Come"
Will Meredith and Derek Ever Really Get Together?

meredith grey and derek shepard

We left last season with Preston Burke leaving Cristina Yang at the alter (at their wedding) to which Meredith says, "It's so over." She starts off this season having a hard time believing that maybe its not possible to really make things work out. She tells Cristina that their marriage was going to be the defining moment for her of whether girld like them could ever be married and now that it ended badly, she's through trying to make things work with Derek. I can't believe that Meredith Grey was relying on Christina's happiness with Burke to define whether her relationship with Derek Shepard was really going to work. You just feel like shaking her and asking, "what the heck?" Through it all, at least she's rededicated herself to being a good doctor, though. She doesn't really ever let it shake her too bad. And then Lexie shows up. Are you kidding me?

Lexie Grey introduces herself as Meredith's half-sister at the worst possible moment and just doesn't seem to get it. Meredith with everything on her plate, now has this desperate sister on her tail. Pa-lease! Then she shows up while Meredith is talking to Derek and he calls her "the girl from the bar!" Whoah! Derek ran into Lexie at Joe's at the end of last season and she tried to pick up on him. Derek doesn't even bother to take the time to explain that he refused her. He just leaves as is and lets Meredith go ahead and be jealous. That was a blow! Meredith offended says, "I'm the girl from the bar!" Two strikes for Lexie and Derek just sits there as smug and calm as ever. Sometimes I just wish he'd just yell and be irrational (like me). I know he's fighting his own battles inside I just wish we could see it come out sometimes. Mc Dreamy and McSteamy finally take a step towards being friends again. Mark reaches out to Derek and tells him that he's missed his freindship with all the women drama getting in the way. They both need it more than they know. I like that Derek and Mark are such good opposites. I think they both help eachother and make a good team when they're friends. I finally got excited for Derek when he defends Meredith to Mark (the man who thinks the next best thing is always a step away). He says that it's not Meredith's fault for everything bad that's happened to her. At least Derek acknowledges that Meredith is messed up for good reason.

And then she dumps him. . . . kind of. She basically says that they should take a break, but she doesn't quite seem to be able to let him go entirely. Make up your mind Meredith. Derek knows what he wants, why don't you? I understand, she's messed up because of her bum dad and all, but I want you to just go for it and don't drag your feet because you are sooooooo going to lose your McDreamy ever after ending!

Izzie Stevens Vs. Cristina Yang

cristina yangisobel stevens

I think they started the season off with a bang! They really got me going with all tension between everyone. Our favorite doctors are no longer interns, they're residents and as such they get to start training the new interns. Right from the get go, Cristina Yang puts all the interns in their place "I already hate you, that's not going to change?" And I love Christina for starting us out this way. She has me laughing all the time. She's so cold and I always leave her thinking that no matter how mean she is on the outside, I know she's a big softy inside. I still can't believe that Burke left her last season-I was hoping it would work out for them for so many different reasons. And here we are, living unhappily ever after. But at least she's in good running to get the title of the "New Nazi."

Izzie, Isobel Stevens, on the other hand. . . what a mess. I felt so bad for her interns. She was all over the place and driving me crazy the whole time. She doesn't have any interesting cases or anything to do. Then a kid shows up in the E.R. saying he needs help. She follows him out to the parking lot to find a deer dying in the back of a truck - the deer that caused an accident bad enough that the other residents are working on the victims. Being the softy that she is, she spends her (and her interns) afternoon saving the deer for a little boy. What a new low point for her. Just when you think she'll start getting it together, she puts herself back into a mess. Her interns stand behind her looking at her in absolute shock-what do you do? She is trying to talk to George the whole time, but he's avoiding her. They left things pretty up in the air last season after the two slept together (while he was married to Callie). Poor George O'Malley stuck between two women. What do you do? When her and George finally confront eachother, she nails it on the head, "I'm Bambi! If anyone's a sad little cartoon character, it's me!" So True! Can it get any worse for her? I guess we'll see!
