News on Katherine Heigl

Evidently Katherine Heigl isn't all that enthusiastic about her current role on Grey's Anatomy. She took a back-handed stab at the writers saying,"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention," Heigl told L.A. Times columnist Tom O' Neil. "In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials." We know that her season's been a little rocky, what with saving the deer in the parking lot and all, but this sounds to me like she's trying to stir the pot. Evidently not afraid to speak her mind as history has proven, calling Knocked Up "sexist" and saying ex-costar Isaiah Washington "just shouldn't speak in public," this star has her fair share of headlines these days. Although removing your name from the list has been done in the past, it has generally been from actors who had numerous wins like Murphy Brown and Bill Cosby. As a Grey's Anatomy fan, I must admit this last season wasn't Izzie's best, but it was certainly warranted after her tragedy last season and I think that she was given an opportunity at the end that will lead her to excel in a new role as the head of the clinic next season. I wish she was a little more grateful for what she has. (source: usmagazine.com "Katherine Heigl Drops Out of Emmy Race," June 11, 2008) |

Despite her Mormon upbringing, which discourages its members from smoking, this star is quite the smoker. "It's so stupid," she said, grabbing a lighter. "I started when I was like 22 or 23, and I had my first cigarette at a bar one night, and I was like mmm. ... I'll try this. I can have just one. I am not gonna get addicted. Then you start bumming. I'm bumming. I don't buy my own packs. I'm not addicted." "Then you go through something that is hard or difficult or stressful and you buy your first pack and it's all over," said Heigl. "And now it's all about how you're going to quit," she adds. "I've tried everything."
Listing her means to attempt to quit, she says, "I've tried Wellbutrin" – a anti-depression drug – "which made me really happy while I smoked. Tried the patch. Tried gum. I hate the gum. It burns my mouth. I think I have to quit the old-fashioned way." Despite her smoking, she says she admires costar T.R. Knight as he recently quit his bad habit. Katherine Heigl, who is the lead actress in the movie Knocked Up, took a cheap shot at the movie that has given her the break she needed in the movie biz. After the movie came out she said the movie was "a little sexist." “It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as goofy, fun-loving guys,” she says. Even if this is how she really feels about it, it leaves her looking ver ungrateful considering this movie took her from $300K per film to an astounding leap to $6 million. To add to it, she says she is growing skeptical of her Grey's Anatomy character, Izzie, after she was written to break up George's marriage. She later clarified her comments about Knocked Up saying, "It's important to me to take a minute and clarify the quote about Knocked Up in Vanity Fair. I was responding to previous reviews about the movie the interviewer brought to my attention. My motive was to encourage other women like myself to not take that element of the movie too seriously and to remember that it's a broad comedy. Although I stand behind my opinion, I'm disheartened that it has become the focus of my experience with the movie. The truth is, it was the best filming experience of my career. Every person that was a part of making Knocked Up helped to encourage, support and inspire me. I never intended for anyone to think otherwise." Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley were engaged in June of 2006. The couple met in 2005 when Heigl appeared in Kelley's video for song "Only You." "At the end of the shoot,I said, 'You're gonna go eat dinner with us, and you can't say no,'" says Kelley of how the meeting. Kelley even wrote a song for her called "Katie's Song." Katherine says, "I hope to have children and the sort of family traditions where we eat together every night. Josh will be an amazing father, so I won't have to do it alone." She also confesses that she enforces a 'no groupie' policy with Josh. She doesn't want other girls in his bus while on tour. She says she's not threatened by the groupies, but doesn't like it either. Fifteen months into the engagement, Josh says he's ready for a family, "I'm 27, and I feel I've done more than most people do in a lifetime. I'm ready to settle down, start a family and build my Kelley empire." The two were married in Park City, Utah on December 23, 2007 by Unitarian minister Tom Goldsmith. It was a small ceremony lasting about 30 minutes and she wore a modest, ivory silk, Oscar de la Renta wedding gown and came down the isle to a song Kelley wrote. The bridesmaids wore red and costar, T.R. Knight was among them. Katherine says of marriage, "It's a crapshoot. The odds are really bad, especially in this town, but I have a lot of faith in Josh, and I wanted to have that one day when I stand in front of my friends and my family and honor him and how important he is in my life.
