Born November 10, 1969 in Everett Massachussetts, Ellen was determined to make it as an actress. Before moving to L.A, she served cocktails in Miami and was a bartender in New York City. Her debut in 2002 was in Brad Siberling's Moonlight Mile along with Susan Sarandon, Dustin Hoffman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Though she played in many minor roles before landing this sitcom, none have given her the recognizeable face and big name that she now has in Grey's Anatomy. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and received a Screen Actor's Guild Award for her role as Meredith on the show we all have grown to know and love.

Ellen Pompeo married record producer Chris Ivory on November 7, 2007 at New York's City Hall. They met in 2003 when friends introduced them at a whole food store and began dating 6 months later. They currently live in Los Angeles.
