Owen Hunt
About Major Owen Hunt

greys anatomy army major hunt

Out of the ambulance pops this new Mc-someone.  Major Hunt, who got involved when three men crashed in a limo, dives in and starts to work on the men at the scene of the accident.  He appears at Seattle Grace in the back of an ambulance and the doctors who receive him soon learn that he has stuck a pen in a man's windpipe as a temporary tracheotomy.  The shock is clearly on their faces as they have no idea what they are getting into.  Cristina Yang, who is there to receive them, can't help but utter the word, "hot!" as he passes by.  This man walks into Seattle Grace ordering the doctors around and telling them what they should do with "his" patients.  Evidently the major works in the field on emergency surgeries for the military.  He's done surgeries under very dire conditions and is very good at what he does.  He further impresses Cristina when he staples his own leg together without any anasthesia.  When Cristina is impaled by an icicle, he comes to her rescue.  The two obviously have chemistry and before he leaves he turns down the blind and kisses Cristina.  She couldn't be more turned on by this mystery man.

After thinking she'll never see him again, Cristina finds Dr. Owen Hunt in her hospital once again.  He has been discharged from his service in the military and was forced to find other work.  He pretends to not remember her at first, but admits that he's trying to turn over a new leaf.  He's starting over in the real world after his service in the military.  The only problem is that this whole life being in a hospital is so different, he's having trouble fitting in.  Derek Shepard and Mark Sloan are really hard on him - thinking his ways are wrong and he doesn't know how to handle himself.   It's so strange to him that everyone is dragging their personal lives in with them to work everyday, and inappropriate.  His patient says to him, “I took a turn.  I lost.  I couldn’t connect.  <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->My life, it just took a turn and I couldn’t turn back.” You know that this is about Hunt and how he is struggling to adjust to his new life at Grace.  Plus, he has feelings for Cristina, but doesn't know how to tell her.  He makes some feeble attempts to talk to her, but fails.  At the end of the day, he's sitting on the stoop of Cristina's building when she comes home.  He doesn't want to come up or go out, so she sits beside him and he tells her she's beautiful.

He can't help but notice that Cristina gets taken out of a solo surgery that she well deserves.  In fact all of the attendings think she's the best choice, but because of the intern's huge mistake, she's taken out of the running.  He takes his chance to be there for her when she loses it and can't bear even to watch the solo surgery she lost.  He takes her to a place she's never been before.  A dark hidden spot in the hospital with a surprise.  Standing her on a vent in the floor, she feels the rush of the wind blowing up her whole body.  Once her head clears a little, he kisses her and this time, he doesn't walk away and he doesn't stop.  He really kisses her.  The next day, he is excited to be with her, but when he's busy he kind of blows her off, then he's back on at the end of the day.  With a fight going on with Meredith, Cristina is not in the mood for his on-again off-again behaviors.

And so, he tries to start over again.  He asks Crisitina on a real date, their first date.  She's even pretty giddy about it and makes herself ready.  Owen also met Derek Shepard's mother and like all good mothers, she seems to know him even though they've never met.  She served in the Navy herself and wonders if Major Hunt is sleeping at night, since the war.  He brushes her off and denies having any problems, but when Owen finally shows up for the date, late, he is also drunk.  First date in over five years and he tried to take the edge off of it, but got a little carried away.  Crisitina suggests he take a shower because he smells awful.   She opens the door to let him out, but he lets himself into her shower.  She follows him a moment later and finds him in the shower still fully clothed.  Caught off guard, he begins to tell her the story of his favorite surgery story.  It's a sad story of a mangled body on the battlefield that he somehow managed to save.  A month after the man's recovery, he even sent a thank-you letter to Dr. Hunt, but then shot himself.  It is clear that he's not okay.  He's not coping well in the real world, the real world away from the war.  Cristina reaches into the shower to help him.

The next day, he tries to apologize.  Cristina doesn't want to hear his problems and walks away.  He tries again at the end of the day.  He pleads with her to give him a second chance and tells her that he had planned to take her up to the lighthouse to watch the northern lights with him.  She tells him that he has "a lot of problems."  He admits it, but asks her to give him a second chance anyways.  She agrees.
