| About Callie Torres |
|
Callie is the orthopedic surgeon of the bunch. She joined us in season 3. Though her methods may seem cruel at times (snapping bones back together) she is very good at what she does and thinks on her feet in surgery. Callie (short for Calliope) soon grew into a relationship with George O'Malley. She was the aggressor, which isn't surprising with George. During a rocky patch of the relationship, she also had a little fling with Mark Sloan. Callie has always been very jealous of George's relationship with Isobel Stevens. George's friendship with her seems to get in the way frequently. After George's father died, he and Callie had a rushed marriage in Vegas. (Married in the Church of Elvis) They returned back to Seattle Grace as George and Callie O'Malley. It was soon uncovered that Callie comes from a great deal of wealth (she tries to keep it a secret because men often dated her for money in her past). Still having issues with Isobel Stevens, who Callie has never trusted, George and her had frequent arguments. On a night after a large argument, George went to Izzie, got drunk and slept with her. Without knowing of his indiscretions, Callie wanted to have a baby with George and in the midst of their trying George gets distracted by his night with Isobel. George chooses to be with Isobel (who he 's always loved but thought she was out of his league) and finally gets the nerve to tell Callie he cheated. She forgives him, but realizes that it's not going to help and that she really can't forgive him for what he's done. They part ways, but Callie is faced with the two of them at work every day and she struggles with it all. She was awarded the Chief Resident position at the end of last season, but in the midst of all that's happened in her marriage, she failed miserably at being the leader she knew she was. Now she spends her time hanging out with the new Dr. Erica Hahn and Mark Sloan. She takes any jab she can at the two lovers who hurt her so bad. Her friendship with Dr. Hahn is growing and the two are practically inseparable until Addison Shepard shows up and asks Callie if the two are a "couple." Callie freaks out and stops spending as much time with Erica while she exerts her efforts into Mark Sloan, to take all her sexual frustrations out on him. She finally admits why she has been avoiding Dr. Erica Hahn's invitations and the two giggle, but things get hotter when Erica leans over and kisses Callie in the elevator to "taunt" Mark Sloan. Callie tries to put all her sexual frustration into Mark Sloan, but he helps her to see after all that she just can't avoid the feelings she's been having for Erica Hahn. Season 4 ends with a kiss from Callie to Erica. We open season 5 with the an awkward avoidance by Erica and Callie. They're just not sure what to make of the kiss. Finally Callie confronts Erica and explains that she's the only one that she's ever kissed. Erica seems more at ease, as it is her first time as well. They decide they'll be "virgins" in this together. The first time together is not so great for Callie, but after a lesson or two from Mark Sloan, she's feeling good about it. At the same time, she wonders why there's not a big difference between sex with men and sex with women for her. When Erica comes to her with an ethical issue (Izzie and Denny's previous relationship and how it interfered with her own patient) Callie defends the hospital. Feeling as if Callie is choosing to side with Izzie Stevens instead of her, Erica gets really upset with her. She finally gets it. She gets that Callie is not truly a lesbian and she's wasting her time. She leaves without even saying a goodbye to Callie. Callie tries to run from her feelings and delve deep into surgery, but finds herself crying hysterically after losing her patient. It's a good thing she still has Mark Sloan's shoulder to cry on.
